Privacy policy
Last updated: 6 November 2026
In short: we keep your email address and the goods, documents and questions you give us, so that we can answer them and show you your past work.
The text of a search is sent to Anthropic, the AI company whose model reads it. We do not sell your data and do not show advertising.
You can ask us to delete everything at any time.
Who we are
TariffKey (tariffkey.com) helps importers, exporters and customs brokers in India find the tariff code of goods and the duties, policy conditions and other checks that apply to them.
For anything about your data, write to tariffkey.app@gmail.com. The same address handles complaints about how we treat your data, as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 asks.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and Google's account number for it; we never see your Google password.
- What you give us to check: goods descriptions, your answers to follow-up questions, invoices, packing lists and other documents you upload, and the questions you ask.
- What the app produces for you: results, reports and your past classifications.
- Feedback: when you mark a result Correct or Wrong, or send a suggestion.
- Usage: your plan, how many searches you have used, and what each one cost us in AI. We also keep error logs to fix faults, and your internet (IP) address for up to an hour, to limit repeated sign-in attempts and misuse.
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use analytics services.
Why we use it
- to sign you in and keep your work private to your account;
- to classify your goods, check your documents and answer your questions;
- to count searches against your plan;
- to find and fix wrong results. A result marked Wrong may be reviewed, and the goods description (without your name or email) may become a test case that helps improve the app;
- to reply to you when you write to us.
Who else sees it
- Anthropic (United States) runs the AI model that reads your search, documents and questions. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
- Web searches: the AI may search the public web with words from your goods description, for example a model or part number, to find what the product is. A model number already looked up is saved, without who searched it, so that it is not searched again.
- Google handles Google sign-in.
- Brevo (France) sends the sign-in codes by email. It receives your email address and the code to deliver the message.
- DigitalOcean hosts the server, in Bangalore, India.
We do not sell or rent your data. We share it with anyone else only when Indian law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- Your account, cases, documents and feedback: while your account is open.
- After you ask us to delete your account: removed within 30 days. Our nightly backups are kept for 14 days, so a copy can remain there until then.
- Error logs: kept while needed to fix faults, and deleted with your account on request.
Your rights
You can ask us, at tariffkey.app@gmail.com, to:
- tell you what we hold about you;
- correct it;
- delete your account and everything in it;
- name someone to act for you if you cannot.
We reply within 7 days. If you are not satisfied with our reply, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Cookies and browser storage
We use one cookie to keep you signed in for up to 7 days, and a short-lived one during Google sign-in. Your browser also keeps a few settings for you, such as the last tab you opened. None of these is used for tracking.
Keeping it safe
Connections to TariffKey are encrypted (HTTPS). Each person can see only their own work. The AI key and passwords are kept on the server, never in your browser.
Documents about other people
Invoices and shipping documents name buyers, sellers and other parties. Upload only documents you are allowed to share for this purpose.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top. If a change affects how your data is used, we tell you by email or in the app first.
