Terms of use

In short: TariffKey is a research aid. It shows you a likely code and the sources behind it, but it is not a ruling and not legal advice.
What you declare to customs stays your responsibility: check the result and its sources before you rely on it.
1. What TariffKey is
TariffKey suggests the tariff classification of goods under the Customs Tariff Act, 1975. It also suggests the duties, import and export policy, BIS, anti-dumping and other checks that may apply. Every result links the official documents it relies on.
2. What it is not
- It is not an advance ruling and does not bind customs or any other authority. For a binding answer, apply for an advance ruling under Chapter VB of the Customs Act, 1962.
- It is not legal, tax or professional advice.
- It can be wrong. A result is only as good as the description it is given, and the law, rates and notifications change. Each result says how sure it is (for example "Likely"), and what it could not check.
3. Your responsibility
- Under the Customs Act, 1962, the importer or exporter assesses and declares the goods (self-assessment). The classification, value, duty and any licence or certificate you declare remain your responsibility, or your customs broker's.
- Describe the goods truthfully and fully: what they are, what they are made of, what they do.
- Read the sources linked in the result before you rely on it, and take professional advice where the amount or the risk is significant.
4. Your account
- Use an email address you control, and keep access to it to yourself. One account is for one person.
- You are responsible for what is done through your account.
- Searches are counted against your plan. Each plan shows how many searches it includes.
5. Fair use
Do not:
- copy the service or its content in bulk, or read it automatically with scripts or bots;
- try to get round sign-in, plan limits or security;
- upload anything you have no right to share, or anything unlawful;
- use TariffKey to plan smuggling, misdeclaration or any other breach of the law.
We may suspend an account that breaks these rules.
6. Your content
The descriptions and documents you upload stay yours. You allow us to use them to give you the service and to improve its accuracy, as the privacy policy explains.
7. Our content
The official documents in the library (the tariff, notifications, circulars, rulings and judgments) are public records, shown with their source. The app itself, its results and its design belong to TariffKey.
8. Paid plans
During the pilot, TariffKey is free. When paid plans start, their price, what they include and how to cancel are shown before you pay.
9. Availability
We try to keep TariffKey running and its sources up to date, but we do not promise that it is always available or free of errors. We may change or stop a feature, and we will tell you before a change that affects a paid plan.
10. Limit of liability
As far as the law allows, TariffKey is not liable for duty, interest, penalties, delays, seizure or other loss arising from a classification or check you relied on. In any case, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
11. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Write to us first at tariffkey.app@gmail.com, and we will try to settle the matter. Otherwise, the courts of India have jurisdiction.
12. Changes
If we change these terms, we update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we tell you by email or in the app before it applies.
